My Journey

Dr. Kumar Partha Pratim — A Life Dedicated to Medicine, Education, and Humanity

I’m a physician, educator, and hospital administrator whose journey across the medical landscape has taken me through pediatrics, ophthalmology, blood banking, medico-legal service, and public health administration. Currently, I serve as a Deputy Director of Medical Education, Assam, where I contribute to policy planning, institutional development, and the continuous evolution of our state’s healthcare education system.

Throughout my career, I’ve tried to uphold a sense of balance between clinical responsibility, academic pursuit, and human empathy—values that continue to guide my professional and personal decisions.

This diverse academic foundation has shaped my multidimensional involvement in both the care and governance of health.

My Journey So Far

Each phase of my career has been a learning curve—grounded in service, enriched by people, and directed by purpose.

1

Junior Resident in Pediatrics

Tripura Medical College & Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Teaching Hospital, Hapania, Tripura (2008–2009)

My clinical career began here, where I learned to manage childhood illnesses not only with scientific understanding but also with patience and sensitivity.

2

Medical Officer

Charaibahi State Dispensary, Morigaon, Assam (2009–2010)

I worked in a rural primary healthcare setting, witnessing firsthand the challenges of healthcare delivery in underserved communities.

3

Consultant Ophthalmologist & Eye Surgeon

Assam, 2012–Present

Alongside my academic and administrative roles, I continue to serve as an eye surgeon—providing routine and advanced ophthalmic care to patients who trust me with their vision.

4

Medical & Health Officer, GMCH

Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati, Assam (2012–2019)

Held critical roles including Blood Bank MO and Casualty MO, which introduced me to the intricacies of hospital operations and institutional resilience.

5

Senior Medical & Health Officer, Singimari

Singimari Model Hospital, Kamrup, Assam (2019–2021)

Here I oversaw hospital administration, implemented service policies, and worked to enhance patient care in a semi-urban setting.

6

Deputy Superintendent, GMCH

Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati, Assam, May–July 2021

In this brief tenure, I contributed to GMCH’s ongoing efforts in system optimization and patient service coordination.

7

Senior Medical & Health Officer, GMC

Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Guwahati, Assam (2021–2023)

As a frontline administrator, I was actively involved in ensuring that public health standards are met city-wide — conducting inspection of trades and overseeing disease prevention, hygiene enforcement, waste management, municipal health governance and legal compliance.

8

The ‘First’ Deputy Superintendent of NMCH

Nalbari Medical College & Hospital, Nalbari, Assam (Feb 2023)

I had the privilege of being the ‘first’ Deputy Superintendent of NMCH, where I helped set the tone for clinical operations and team structure in its formative stage.

9

Faculty in Forensic Medicine & Toxicology

Medical Education & Research Department, Govt. of Assam, Since February 2023

Academic teaching, conducting post mortem examination, medico-legal case review, and guiding young minds in the discipline of Forensic Medicine are integral parts of my identity today.

10

Deputy Superintendent, GMCH

Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati, Assam, March 2023 – March 2025

In this dual role — administrator and educator — I had the opportunity to impact systems and shape students, reinforcing GMCH’s role as a center of excellence.

11

Deputy Director of Medical Education, Assam

Since April 2025

I currently contribute in strengthening medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy and allied health education and healthcare infrastructure across Assam, while ensuring academic standards align with future needs.

🩺 Philosophy & Passion

I believe medicine is not just about treatment—it is about understanding. Patient-centered care, ethical clarity, and academic honesty are values I try to uphold every day. I’m especially drawn to the human stories that unfold within the system—some triumphant, some unresolved, but all worth reflecting upon.

✍️ Writing & Reflection

My first book, Sajal Santusti Aru Kichu Rachana, published in January 2017, is a collection of reflective writings drawn from life’s subtle observations—of childhood, parenthood, dignity, empathy, and the quiet injustices we often overlook.

“These aren’t literary pieces. They’re lived truths—sometimes imagined, often felt.”
